Prayer for the cardinal Mauro Piacenza

From the serenity of Heaven, Lord, you choose your children,

with a logic that is incomprehensible to us, that is only yours,

that is sometimes also a mystery,

for us but not for you.

Your embrace the world with your sight,

seeking for those who, with their natural gifts,

could be the vicars of your Son on earth,

and you take them to you.

You call them to you, anoint and embrace them in a supernatural way,

which make them do what no other man could do.

They are able to heal the souls, spread your word,

and forgive sins in your name.

Sometimes they fall, listening to other voices, which are not yours.

Hopefully they rise up, and seek to be worthy of you again.

Even if they commit a mistake,

they know that you forgive them always.

Sometimes they turn away from you,

unfortunately because of the deeds of their fellows.

Sometimes they fall into lust, but always seek to return,

to be close to you.

And in your infinite mercy, you have chosen a man, a priest like them,

giving him in addition to the wonderful gift of the priestly vocation,

another vocation, a specific charism, the grace of graces:

to be a father for your alter Christus.

Protect him, Lord, from the dangers of his ministry,

give him the strength of always seeing the truth,

with the eyes of faith,

and the love that he has for you.

Instill hope in his soul,

source of all goodness,

and awake in him the gift of discernment,

on your own.

In his moments of sadness and loneliness,

when the colors of the world lose their brilliance, because of sin,

give him the smile that will help him to go forward,

thinking about you.

Give him protection against the difficulties; heal the wounds of his soul;

fill his spirit with your light; wipe the tears that he will cry before the miseries of the world;

cherish his heart, which beats for you.

Make him feel loved by those for whom he is the example, of priest and man;

strengthen him in his priesthood;

defend him against the temptation, in all its forms;

and make him similar to you.

Give him the light of the Holy Spirit,

when he will ponder the guilt and merits of men;

help him to take the right decisions,

for the glory of your name.

Hear our prayer,

accept the sacrifice that we do for this man,

who is one of your sons,

but also the father of your priests.

Amen.

O Immaculate Queen of Heaven and Earth, refuge of sinners, and our most loving Mother, to whom God willed to entrust the entire order of mercy, grant to receive us as your property and possession, in body, mind, and soul, that we may become entirely yours, to do with as you please, wholly and completely yours, with our life, death, and eternity, so that we may become useful instruments in your Most Holy and Immaculate hands, in the work of giving birth to all those men, whom God has planned, from eternity, to be in service to Him at the Altar of God, in the Holy Roman Catholic Church, for the salvation of souls. Grant, O Holy and Immaculate Virgin Mary, that this work may be received by you, in total consecration, exempt from any influence and powers of evil. Protect us, O Most Loving Mother, and bring this work to the propagation of fruitfulness, so that God may be glorified, and Your Son Jesus adored. Amen.

Prayer to St. Michael

Prayer for Priests - St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus

O Jesus, Eternal Priest, keep your priests within the shelter of your Most Sacred Heart, where none can touch them. Keep unstained their anointed hands, which daily touch your Sacred Body. Keep unsullied their lips, daily tinged with your Precious Blood. Keep pure and unworldly their hearts, sealed with the sublime mark of the priesthood. Let Your Holy Love surround and protect them from the world’s contagion. Bless their labors with abundant fruit, and may the souls to whom they minister be their joy and consolation here, and their everlasting crown in the hereafter. Amen.

Prayer to Saint Joseph for Priests - Fr. Mark Daniel Kirby, Cist.

O glorious Saint Joseph, who, on the word of the angel speaking to you in the night, put fear aside to take your Virgin Bride into your home, show yourself today the advocate and protector of priests. Protector of the Infant Christ, defend them against every attack of the enemy, preserve them from the dangers that surround them on every side. Remember Herod's threats against the Child, the anguish of the flight into Egypt by night, and the hardships of your exile.

Stand by the accused; stretch out your hand to those who have fallen; comfort the fearful; forsake not the weak; and visit the lonely. Let all priests know that, in you, God has given them a model of faith in the night, obedience in adversity, chastity in tenderness, and hope in uncertainty. You are the terror of demons and the healer of those wounded in spiritual combat. Come to the defense of every priest in need; overcome evil with good. Where there are curses, put blessings; where harm has been done, do good. Let there be joy for the priests of the Church, and peace for all under your gracious protection. Amen.

Prayer for Priestly Vocations

God our Father, we beg you to stir into flame the call to the priesthood, which you have placed in the hearts of many men in the Diocese of Providence. With expectant faith, we pray for a new springtime of priestly vocations. Raise up for us priests according to the Heart of Christ, your Son. We ask your blessing upon each of our diocesan seminarians. Grant them the grace of perseverance, and a deep desire to follow Christ with an undivided heart. Bless our Bishop and priests. May they continue to be faithful stewards of your holy mysteries, and through their example, may many men be inspired to follow you as priests. We entrust this prayer to Mary, the Mother of Priests. May she obtain for us priests after the Heart of Jesus Christ. Amen.
